Dairy
Homestead Heritage follows the same grass-fed principles for our dairy cows to improve the quality of the cows' milk. Grass feeding makes the milk richer in omega-3 fats, vitamin E, beta-carotene, and conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), a beneficial fatty acid.
-
Our dairy cows are fed grass or hay only. Never grain of any kind.
-
Unlike conventional herds where calves are separated from mama hours after birth, our cows are allowed to mother their young.
-
Added hormones are never used and antibiotics only in rare cases to save a life.
-
Cows are milked in a closed-system - no open-air milking or hand-milking.
-
Milk is routinely tested.
-
Cows udders are sanitized with iodine before milking equipment is attached.
-
Milk is chilled in a stainless steel temperature-controlled tank prior to bottling.
-
